Formation of this village is dated around 17th century. Then king Pusapati Madhava Verma Brahma of Gajapati dynasty ruling the Deccan and Orissa regions built a fort in Arugolanu village about 6 km from Madhavaram to protect his kingdom from enemies. He deployed soldiers from northern Andhra to this fort and provided them with Agricultural land and housing sites. Those soldiers formed the village of Madhavaram.〔("The Military Men of Madhavaram: Why generation after generation of men in a small village of Andhra Pradesh line up to defend the country" ). ''The Caravan''. By GBSNP VARMA | 1 June 2012〕 One can find the ruins of that fort in Arugolanu even today. Since then it has been the tradition of the people of this village to join in military. During British Raj, around 2000 soldiers participated in WWI and WWII representing India. According to many old citizens of this village, Mahatma Gandhi once visited this village. A war memorial like Amar Jawan stupa at India Gate has been built in the memory of the soldiers from this village who sacrificed their life for the nation.
